  1. Students with Positive Attitudes Perform Higher

If you are in education you know that creating a positive school culture leads to students performing better in the classroom. This is not a secret yet so many teachers struggle with getting students to have good attitudes in class.

There are numerous variables that tie into the behavior of a student.

For one, there is no telling what happens in the home before a student is dropped off at school. So much about a student can be traced to the upbringing at home. If a student has a hard time getting along with parents and is constantly getting in trouble at home, more than likely they are going to act out in class and have a negative attitude. The same is true for students who have an unstable home life. This has been researched over the years and it’s true.

Second, students who are challenged in school will be better students when they understand the challenge and the school work. Getting students to understand the work is what teachers find difficult. Some students get behind and have a hard time catching up with the class while others are ready to move to the next subject. A positive attitude can help a student be focused and ready to learn when they are at school and when they are at home.

Last, positive behavior should be rewarded. If adults are awarded for doing good how much more should student be rewarded for performing well at school? A lot more. So make sure to have a positive reward system in place that helps teachers and students know that behavior will be rewarded. This challenge is healthy for students and schools will see performance go up.

Students tend to know more about discipline than they do the rewards for good behavior. It’s time for schools to start challenging students to be the best students they can be.

  2. Speaking to Empower Youth

Children are faced with tough challenges in their daily lives, more than we can ever fathom. Reaching out and speaking to youth is extremely critical. The alarming rate of school violence is now on the rise. Bullying negatively impacts the lives of everyone involved, both the victim and abuser. Now is the time to step up and address these issues to kids in our communities to shape their lives for the better.

Bullying affects children, in many cases they suffer from depression, drop out of school, and may commit suicide which is now being called Bullycide. Kids are afraid to speak up about the events as they fear for their lives. A study conducted by Oklahoma’s Department of Health in 2009 showed: 2 out of every 10 high school students felt so concerned with their personal safety they brought a weapon to school with them. Kids who are bullied aren’t the only ones who encounter life changing events. Recent news has brought about the consequences abusers face. (more…)

  3. Hispanic Youth Need Motivation

I speak the thousands of Hispanic students every year. The more I talk to them the more I realize that they need motivation. By the time I get in front of students I don’t know where they came from or where they have been. I see students who don’t have a clue as to what awaits them in high school and college if they go. I say if they go because about half of the teens I ask about college say that they don’t know if they will attend.

I can understand because some are focused on graduating high school and college seems so far away to Hispanic students. Not all because there are some who have been raised in a way where not attending college was never an option, they’re going and it’s just a matter as to where they will attend.

Don’t believe me, ask a Hispanic sophomore in High School about where they are going to attend college. You are going to get the deer in the headlights look. That is why I feel my job is to give teens a pep talk as to why it’s important to attend college. Since I went to college and finished grad school they get to see and hear from somebody who looks and talks like them. Somebody who grew up the way they grew up and made it through. I want to students to say, man if Fabian can do it then so can I. I feel like my life was created in order to motivate students to be the best students they can be and to accomplish what they didn’t think possible.

With a little push and strong positive words, there is no telling where a Hispanic student can end up. This is why I will not stop motivating Hispanic youth to follow their dreams.

  4. Motivating Young Kids

    Motivating Kids

After having the privilege being able to speak to boys and girls at elementary schools I realized something. After every speech I would have young kids come up to me and ask me for my autograph. I thought this was so sweet because you see these kids in the crowd and you don’t think they are listening but they do.

I have thing little saying where I say, I know the answer, I know the answer. And I do a little dance and the kids just laugh because it’s funny. Well that is what they remember after I speak because it’s catchy. I learned that humor can be used to motivate young kids because they enjoy being entertained. To be honest, I enjoy entertaining kids. I like seeing them smile and walk away from an assembly feeling good about me and about them. (more…)

  5. How to Get a Youth Motivational Speaker

    Comments Off.

Getting the best youth motivational speaker for your next event can be quite a hassle. What with the many things that you need to take into account prior to accomplishing the deed. The first thing that you need think about prior to hiring a youth motivational speaker is if the person you are employing is qualified for the position. Make sure you don’t hire someone for the sake of doing so. You need to carefully review the credentials of the person and see to it that he/she has experience in talking to the youth.

Bear in mind that the youth is a complicated group of individuals. What may be effective for one person, may not be the same for another. This is also the reason why you must make sure that the speaker you will get has experience in communicating to different types of people. There are also youth speakers that are willing to negotiate with you to make sure that you will get the right seminar that will fit your budget. (more…)

  6. Teen Self Esteem

    Youth Self Esteem

In all my years of working with teens I have seen a pattern. Teenagers want to be seen and heard. It’s true; those two areas are what set them apart from all other age groups.

    Teens want to be seen

Think about how many teens you have seen that have spiky hair, or how many have a different hair color. We see them and say wow I can’t believe their parents let them walk out the front door like that.

Parents will say not my child, there is no way. But before you point the finger and laugh remember that this is just a phase. Many teens struggle with self identity so many will try just about anything to get attention from their peers. They really do not care about what adults think of them, only what their peer’s think.

    Teens want to be heard

They often feel like they do not have a say because many look down on them or give them the excuse of not knowing enough yet to make decisions. But we need to listen to teens; they are the ones that are going to be in leadership roles. So look past the spiky hair and listen to what they have to say.

If you realize that teens either like to have attention or want to be heard, you will know how to better get along with them. Teen self esteem is a big issue in America and many adults do not want to help make it better.

Whenever I speak at youth assemblies I like to take time to walk around the school and see what students are posting on the walls. Why? This is a way in which I get to listen to what they are saying through drawing or writings. I especially like to walk past the art rooms because students like to express themselves through art and you can see what it going on inside that teen through their artwork.

So take some time and listen to what teens are saying, don’t just notice them and look away. They need more adults to understand them and guide them through this time in their lives when their self esteem is high one day and low the next. This is normal for teen but parents do not know what to say to their kids. So just put your arms around them and let them know you are proud of them.

Are you an event planner looking to hire a youth speaker to bring a positive message to your students?

You are not alone. Fabian Ramirez gets calls and emails from event planners across the nation. All planners want to get a speaker in front of their students but they want somebody they know can get through to their teens.

As a Youth Speaker in Dallas – Fort Worth, Fabian has worked with at risk students in the Dallas Oak Cliff neighborhood since 2004. Many of the students Fabian mentored have went on to finish college and are now working on their graduate degrees. His message takes students on a journey about how he went from being bullied in middle school to being elected prom king of his high school.

Fabian speaks on drop out, bullying and drug prevention and tailors his message to fit your audience. Whether its students or adults, he will have everybody in attendance wanting to hear more. His speeches are so motivational that adults have been known to leave inspired to continue their own education and many have gone back to school to receive their bachelors or their masters’ degree.

The More You Learn, the More You Earn

The More You Learn, the More You Earn

Fabian teaches students about the truth behind the statement: The more you learn the more you learn and he does this through personal experience. He says that there is no excuse for students nowadays to stop attending school after they graduate from high school.

The More You Learn, The More You Earn

High school is a stepping stone to going to college and should not be where one stops. Employers require most people to have a high school diploma and more often than not prefer college graduates over somebody with a high school diploma. So get in contact with Fabian today and let him encourage your student body to reach for the stars when it comes to education. He’s humorous and talks to students as if he was their big brother. Students love his humorous approach, so invite him to speak at your next school assembly.

What You Should Speak About to Teens

    Teenage boy

    Teenager

It takes a lot of knowledge, effort, and guts to become an effective teen speaker.  The teens are a very dynamic audience and they are very complicated too.  As their speaker, you are given the power and the chance to make a difference in their lives. This is something enormous that should not be easily taken for granted.  Teenage years are a pivotal period in a person’s life.  All the influences that he or she has during this time will play a crucial role in molding him or her into a responsible adult, or otherwise.

There are a number of topics you must master as a teen speaker.  Some of them are the following:

    • Time Management and Organization– This topic is very important because teens are yet learning to manage their time and activities.  As teen years are busy years, they must be guided as to how to organize everything—from home, to school, to extra-curricular activities.

    • Middle School Bullying and Its Consequences – This is a common school problem and teens must be aware of how bullying could harm not only the ones being bullied, but the bullies too.

    • Speaking to and Understanding Your Parents—Teenage life is full of drama and emotions.  Youth should be made to understand how to effectively cope with the many new things around them without needing to be a pain in their parents’ neck.

    • Social Interaction—Socialization is crucial too, because the peers that a teenager keeps are reflective of the kind of person he or she is turning to be.  Proper and careful selection of friends is necessary in paving a way for a good future.

These are just some of the hottest topics you must be able to discuss extensively as a teen speaker. You have to know about them and be able to tackle them sincerely and confidently among the youth. Of course the list can go on but the idea is that teenagers have a lot of deal with and at times they don’t want to listen to their parents. So it’s vital to pair students with a role model or somebody that they do listen to. So if you are a parent, watch them closely and find out who they listen to the most and try to engage in that so that at least you come off as understanding. This will open up conversation and a better relationship with your teen.

  9. Youth Speaker

Speaking to California Students in High SchoolAt some point, every school looks to bring in speakers to challenge their students to continue their education. Some speakers come in and talk solely about staying away from drugs and alcohol. Whatever the topic it’s important to bring in a neutral person who can motivate youth to reach their full potential. Whether it’s at a youth conference or school assembly, having a youth speaker can add value to the overall message the school wants to get across. What better way to inspire students about school then to have someone tell them why it’s beneficial to finish. Yes, parents and teachers can tell students the importance of education but when a man close to their age looks them in the eye and says, “Sow yourself in education so you can reap the dreams you have and fulfill your passion in life”, the message gets across.

A youth speaker is the answer to help motivate students to stay in school and make healthy decisions. Today more than ever, kids needs someone to look up to. Not everyone has a big brother or sister they can look up to and some have elders that do not help them or understand what it takes to finish high school and go on to college. This is why it’s vital to hire a motivational speaker who has a college degree, or a Hispanic education speaker like me who went further and earned a Masters degree.

The youth of today are the future of tomorrow and one day they will be the movers and shakers of America and the rest of the world. This is why a youth speaker can influence students to choose a lifestyle that leads them to become productive individuals. Youth just want someone who can understand them and speak to them at their level. Someone who has walked in their shoes and has gone through the same struggles as them. The public school system has millions of students who need to be inspired to finish high school. Students want to relate with a speaker so they can catch a vision as they listen to a person that used to be in their same shoes that finished high school and earned a college degree.

Let students listen to personal stories about how this Hispanic underdog beat all the odds and went through the public school system and finish college and grad school. Students will walk away feeling challenged to not drop out of school and to do their best to change their family tree by getting their education.
